Who is Home Tutoring Business (HTB)?

HTB is a one-stop shop for establishing a lucrative one-on-one in-home tutoring referral business in your community. The owner of the business becomes a matchmaker, or broker, matching qualified tutors and teachers with children in need of individualized tutoring. You choose your own company name and HTB provides you with all the tools you need to get started and quickly grow your business.

-Home Tutoring Business.com

How can you make money with HTB?

Revenue is earned by splitting the fee for tutoring services with your tutors and teachers. The more hours you bill, the more income you will make. The potential for making money is virtually only limited to the amount of students for which you are willing to provide tutors.

-Home Tutoring Business.com

Is this a franchise?

No. HTB is an independent business opportunity which means that there are no royalty or ongoing contract fees. Once you purchase the system its yours to run as you see fit.

How much does this opportunity cost?

You can purchase a basic package for $1695 which includes a business manual, one on one consultation, logo design, a merchant account, forms and promotional material. A deluxe package can be purchased for $3990. Check their site for full details.

Despite the down economy and the rising gas prices, people still love to drive their cars. Which makes buying and selling cars a great business opportunity that can easily be done from home. The article goes on to state that someone who is mechanically inclined would have an advantage in this type of business, but I image that some mechanically challenged (like myself) could establish a business relationship with a local mechanic that would benefit both. It would be comparable to the relationship between a house flipper and their contractor.

How would you make money?

Its pretty simple: Buy low. Sell high. Put the difference in your pocket. Repeat

Can you really make money doing this?

Absolutely. There’s always someone somewhere looking to sell their car. And there’s always someone looking to buy a new 9 or at least new to them) car. Your job is to get the car from A to B.

Are field inspections are legitimate opportunity to make money from home?

This is not full review of the company. It’s just a quick look to answer some questions you might have if you came across this business. As always, I am not affiliated with this or any company that I look into on this site. I don’t gain anything financially if you choose to do business with this company.

Who is Get Paid From Field Inspections ?

Essentially, this site is the creation of Steve Bialk. He claims that he makes up to $300 a day doing field inspections. He’s created a sales page that leads to a free report which, according to Steve, is a step by step manual of how to do what he does.

How Do You Make Money?

I think a better question to ask here is what exactly does a field inspection do? According to the site:

A Field Inspector provides a visual inspection of property or other collateral such as heavy equipment, computers, RV’s, boats, and other business related items. Financial institutions usually require these (bank, credit union, mortgage lender or insurance company) to finalize or update a particular business transaction.

Still not clear on how you would make money? Perhaps this video can provide more insight:

Can You Really Make Money Doing This?

Field inspections is valid and legitimate industry so I would have to answer yes to this question. Since this post is meant to be a quick analysis of the site I can’t answer the bigger question: are the claims of "making up to $300 per day" and this being a "recession proof business" true? If there is enough interest on the part readers I can make this subject of a later, more in-depth review post.

Is There More Information Available on This Site?

www.getpaidfromfieldinspections.com

Society of Field Inspectors

Random Thoughts Buzzing Around My Head

The website could use an upgrade. I only say this because it’s light on information and details. I haven’t downloaded his report so I don’t know how detailed it is but you know what they say about first impressions.

Again not having read the report, I don’t know what Steve is selling. I would guess that it’s some kind of starter kit. If anyone wants me to download the report so they don’t have to give out their email address, I’ll do it and update this report. PLEASE MAKE YOUR REQUEST IN THE COMMENTS SECTION.

For some reason I’m doubtful that $300 is possible in one day.

I’ve come across a few questionable business models in the years that I’ve been researching home business opportunities, but the one being offered by Data Networking Affiliates (DNA) is probably the most questionable I’ve seen in a long time. DNA is a data collection company that is offering people a chance to own a home business in the multi-billion dollar data collection industry. What exactly is the business? You would be getting paid to collect license plate numbers from cars and trucks you encounter in day to day activities so that DNA then can put these numbers in a database that can sold to third parties. Oh, and recruit other people to the same thing so that you can be paid a percentage of what they make….but of course you’re not required to recruit people. You’re just paid much more money if you happen to recruit others. Read their press release for greater insight:

PRLog

Feb 17, 2010 – (PressRelease) February 15, 2010 – Dean Blechman,
Founder of TwinLabs, one of America’s greatest sources for nutrition and health has joined DNA as Its Chief Executive Officer, Chairman Of The Board & Founder of Data Network Affiliates. Data collection is a $14 Billion industry. Data Network Affiliates was created to let online and offline marketer join this billion dollar industry.
DNA is directly involved in providing American business with meaningful, actionable information that will keep America able to compete in the world sales market, and save consumers money by reducing vehicle and property fraud.
Public safety will also benefit, by providing law enforcement with real time information on stolen cars, crime scenes and possible whrereabouts of missing children.
Private individuals will benefit by being able to receive monthly cash payments for doing nothing more than noticing license plate information on cars they already see parked or travelling. There is no cost at all to become an affiliate of this program.
As an independent affiliate with D.N.A. you are helping to build databases. You are not selling a product. Instead you get paid to help prevent crime, and help American business regain its world leadership.

Now this just screams SCAM ALERT! SCAM ALRET! DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER! to me but i could be wrong. Since the site hasn’t officially launch yet there isn’t much information out there but I did come across this video:

Troy pretty much covered everything I would say about DNA and this "opportunity". Don’t waste your time or risk your privacy (or mines!).

Next!

One of the universal rules for owning your own business is "build your business around your passion". Well for many people, myself included, their passion is food. For many people they are passionate about eating the food but many it’s the prepartion of the food that gets them exicted. There are a number of ways to turn this passion into profit. Chefs and resturant owners are two from off the top of my head but there are plenty more. The subject of latest review, Pampered Chef, offers you the opportunity to build a great business centered around helping people to make good food.

WHAT THEY SAY

The Pitch

As the premier direct seller of essential kitchen tools and part of the Berkshire Hathaway family of businesses, The Pampered Chef® and its sales force of Independent Pampered Chef® Consultants have been helping families prepare quick, delicious meals since 1980.

What do they offer

Pampered Chefs offers a full line of kitchen and cooking related products. The business opportunity that they offer is for you to join their company’s sale force and to sell their products primarily through cooking shows which are in home demonstration parties. These shows are similar to ones that are employed by Shure Pets pet consultants.

Compensation and Rewards:

A percentage of total sales generated at cooking shows. According Pampered Chef’s website you can earn between $850 and $1,800 per month

Dream vacations

Jewerly

Free Products

Training and Support

24-7 Web courses

Tele-classes

local and national sales meetings

Professional catalogs and brochures

Monthly magazines

Weekly sales updates

Toll free phone support

Cost

To get started with Pampered Chefs you will need to purchase a starter kit. Starter kits come in two varieties, a min kit for $65 and a full kit for $155. Based on the pictures of the kits on the website you get about three times as much stuff with the full ($570 value) than you do with the mini ($200 value).

Franchise or Independent?

This is an independent business opportunity. When joining Pampered Chefs you become an Independent Consultant. It’s the same as with Avon or Amway.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING

Program Critique

I invested 15 years in the Pampered Chef and now the sales organization I built belongs to my Director because I was unable to meet monthly sales quotas. All my years with Pampered Chef mean nothing on a resume because no corporation will look at that experience and take it seriously. I had to go back to school so I could find a job. Don’t let anyone tell you this is a great opportunity. If you are looking for reliable income, get a real job.

MLM Review Kings

You are paid a percentage of the Pampered Chef sales that are created at each party. You are also paid a percentage of what the people you are able to recruit into the business sell. The difference here is that the higher you move up in the company, the less money you make off the people you have placed under you. So really the best way to make the most money is to sell, sell, sell!

Network Marketing Review

Pampered Chef could be a great opportunity for those who love sales, talking, meeting new people and cooking. However, this type of direct sales opportunity may not suit someone looking to build a business beneath them and make residual income from their downline or from leveraging the internet.

My 3 Cents

My wife wanted to earn a little extra money, so she got talked into purchasing $300 worth of Pampered Chef product in order to become a consultant. She then got talked into signing up for their personal websites. She tried selling the product and using the website for a few months, but couldn’t make enough contacts, so she chauked it up as a loss and at least she got a lot of Pampered Chef products to walk away with. A few months later, they auto recharged her bank account for renewing the website (which she did not authorize and which she hadn’t used in months). She called them and they told her that they were authorized to recharge her bank account because that was their standard business practice. She told them that they had agreed when she first set it up that they wouldn’t do that and wanted it cancelled and refunded. They told her that she didn’t have it in writing and that they would cancel the website but only give her back a few dollars (nowhere close to what they charged her). We filed a unauthorized charge claim with her bank and have been now fighting this for nearly 3 months. Pampered Chef is a rip off and couldn’t treat people fairly if they tried!

YouTube

Only the first half of this video is relevant to Pampered Chef. You can stop the video after the 3:56 mark.

BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU

Pampered Chefs have an A+ rating with the BBB. The BBB has 51 complaints filed against them in the last 36 months. All complaints have been resolved according to the report. You can read the full report here.

MY TWO CENTS

This business did not get my Scammy Senses tingling. This appears to be a legitmate business opportunity

I would’ve liked their website to be a little more informative. Particularly when it comes to the compensation plan I felt that site was light on details. A video explaining the comp plan would be great

Not being a big shopper i can’t say this with certainity but the prices for some of their products looked high to me. I wonder if consultants can give price breaks at the cooking shows.

Speaking of the cooking shows, I have this feeling that these types of businesses that rely on home parties do better in suburban and rural areas as opposed to inner cities. I could be wrong but I just don’t see this as being an urban thing.

I’ll use myself as an example, I’ve lived in New York City all my life and I’ve never heard of Pampered Chef before doing this review.

One of the sites I quoted stated that this is a great opportunity for those for love sales, meeting new people, and cooking. That sounds like a SOCIAL or an ENTERPRISING personality type. Click here to discover why personality types matter in selecting a business.

I thought the lady in first video I featured made some real good points about the hidden costs of these types of businesses. And her point about only making 20% commission is worthy of great consideration.

Our last review featured one of the largest direct selling companies in the world. It seems only fitting to follow that up another famous direct selling company. Another guest reviewer turns the spotlight on Amway. Like Avon, Amway is a household name for many people. But Amway is also known for being controversial. Over it’s 50 year history thousands of people have claimed that Amway has been the answer to their dreams of owning a business. Can it be the answer to yours?

What They Say

Pitch

In a nutsell, Amway (parent company:Alticor) claims to give you the opportunity to make money by selling products and by sponsoring/mentoring/training others as Independent Business Owners. Like similar Multi Level Marketing (MLM) companies, you recieve a percentage of the revenue generated by any of the IBO’s you sponsor.

Products

Amway offers a various products that their IBO can sell. Product categories include Nutrition & Wellness, Beauty, Bath & Body, and Home. You may have heard of some of their brands: NUTRILITE®, ARTISTRY® Skin Care, L.O.C.® Multi-Purpose Cleaner.

Cost

According to Amway’s registration contract the cost for joining is $137.75. This fee covers "Business & Support, IBOAI Support, and Product Info Pack". Additionally, several sites have reported that Amway encourages new IBO’s to purchase several self improvement/ motivational books and CDs. The cost of these materials can push the inital investment much higher.

What Kind of Support Do They Offer

Amway offers several ways to support IBO’s:

What Others Say

Ripoff Report: 28 reports filed against Amway. All of the reports were negative, here’s the most recent one

….My start up cost was 140 dollars. That money, I was told was to pay for my start up kit and for my 4 websites. Only maybe 2 close friends actually signed on the business with the full 140, the rest did 60 to mainly get the websites. Oh and remember my friend I mentioned earlier, the cousin of my upline and sponsor? Well, he also signed on with me as my upline since he signed up first. None of my friends including me have made any actual money since we’ve been in the business. Sure I’ve received checks: 1 for 6 dollars, another for 38 dollars and the last for 50 dollars, but that money still doesn’t exceed even my start up cost. Plus it was basically forced so that I would go on to the next bracket, I didn’t do anything my upline just bought a bunch of random crap. To be honest my friends also haven’t really done anything either except my one friend Neill who was occasionally selling some products to his mom. And basically not really seeing any money from that anyway, he was probably getting 10-20 dollars for selling like 200+ dollars worth of Amway garbage.

WAHM.com:

I was an IBO with Quixtarseveral years ago, some family members are still IBO’s… Good products, the comp plan is ok. Since I am in Calif.it is easier and cheaper to drive to the store for the bulk of the products they offer. I know it works well in areas that are not as populated, but a hard sell for many….

Final Say

Overall Grade: No Grade

I was personally involved in the Amway “culture” and prefer to abstain from influencing your decision…Now that we got the disclosure out of the way. It should be noted that the culture of the company “called for” a lifestyle/mental change to narrow for my taste. Meetings, talks, reading materials, friends all related to the Amway …well way. This might appeal to some and not to others.

The travel industry is 700 billion dollar per year industry. Yes, that’s billion with ‘B’. So it should come as no surprise that there are many companies that claim they can provide home business seekers a way to cash in on the huge opportunity this industry offers. YTB International is one of these companies. YTB claims to have around 73,00 reps that offer travel packages to customers at discounts similar to travel sites like Expedia, Priceline, and Travelocity. Additionally, reps can take advantage of ‘insider’ travel discounts for themselves and enjoy worldwide travel. Sounds good? Well, there’s more. YTB is also a MLM company that offers commissions to reps who recruit people into their ‘downline’. Still good? Not so sure now? You’re in good company. There’s a lot of pro and con opinions on YTB. I did my best to bring all sides of the issues to you today to help you decide if this is the right opportunity for you.

WHAT THEY SAY

The Pitch

YTB offers people the perfect opportunity to transform their lives by combining the powerful information – handling capability of the Internet with the world’s most dynamic product—travel—and the personal touch of independent, home -based business people.

How Do They Do It

The Company operates through three subsidiaries: YTB Marketing, Inc. (formerly YourTravelBiz.com, Inc.); YTB Travel Network, Inc.; and YTB Franchise Services, Inc. YTB Marketing, Inc. markets Internet Travel Centers ("ITC" or "ITCs") formerly referred to as internet travel websites, on behalf of YTB Travel Network by use of Independent Marketing Representatives ("Reps"). YTB Travel Network operates home based travel websites which book online travel transactions, collect payments, collect licensing fees, and pay travel sales commissions. YTB Franchise Services was formed in March 2009, to serve as the corporate entity to offer the proposed/ contemplated franchise offerings in the future for the Company.

Here’s YTB’s marketing video that illustrates what they offer (It’s close to 10 minutes long–you were warned):

How Does it Cost

YTB Marketing generally charges an initial fee of $449.95 for the setup of an ITC plus $49.95 per month for web-hosting fees.

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT YTB TRAVEL

Ripoff Report:

Then you have to shell out an additional $175 for their training session to become an RTA(Representing Travel Agent) and that doesnt include a $50 a month website maintenance fee. You do the math how much do you think that comes out to? 675(initial $500 set up and $175 training fee cost) + $600(total cost)to maintain website for one full year paid in $50 installments)comes to about $1275-that’s a lot of money to invest into a business especially if you don’t have that kind of money.

If someone were to invest a total of $1275 over the course of 1 year in a business that can create a positive retrun on investment, I would challenge them to seek out other business opportunties, or even franchises that can claim the same low cost start up and maintenance. Franchises often require one to have a minimum of $25,000 working capital up front and can cost up to $1 million dollars for franchise liscense fees, plus monthly loyalty fees. (Examples – UPS, McDonalds, Jani King, Matco Tools, Jazzercise) – there are many more. I know this because I did the research. There is never a guarantee of success in any venture. Not even buying a name for $25 to $100K or more.

Know this…The bonuses are real. The profit sharing is real. the free 100% health care coverage is real. the 100.000.00 life insurance plan is real, the 1000.00, 10,000.00, 50,000.00, 100,000.00, 500,000.00, and 1,000,000.00 bonuses are REAL. Hey how cool is it to make enough extra money that you can give a third of your money up for taxes and the 2/3 left is more than enough to live on, what a blessing

YTB has been identified by Royal Caribbean and others in the travel business as nothing more that a MLM card mill. Pretty soon they won’t have anything to ’sell’ other than the pyramid opportunity. Watch this group like a hawk before spending money.

All of these business’ are sharing the same business model, it cost me way less to be a YTB rep than it did with my pizza business’ and the income potential is a hundred times better. Do I have to work, answer is of course. I tell people about the business, if the model makes sense to them, good if not, also good. What’s the beef? There were lot’s of pizza business’ in my areal some did great others closed their doors. Does this mean the pizza business is a rip off?

Scam.com

Look I don’t want to get bogged down into trying to determine exact numbers….. As has been posted its a pointless effort. I think you can just step back and say for at least the last few years:

Recruiting comisisons are higher than travel comissions.
Membership fees are higher than travel comissions.
Most RTAs don’t sell enough travel to cover the monthly fees.
Many people become an RTA but never sell travel.

     Chris n

Marketing commissions: 16,136,795

Travel comissions: 1,608,688

Total Comissions: 17,745,483

Travel Comissions: 1,608,688/17,745,483 = .0906 rounded to 9%. For the quarter, 91% of the comissions paid out were recruiting comissions. only 9% of the comisisons came from selling travel. There are a lot of people on here that are lying – go look for yourselves – the numbers are straight from YTB.

      Chris n

I pay $49.95 on the 10th of every month. As long as I have 6 active RTA’s on the 30th, that $49.95 is then sent back to me on the 11th. Tiny little details like this make a big impact on how things are actually perceived in our industry and what constitutes a legitimate tax write off to the IRS.

Some MLM travel agencies are called "card mills" reason is that they give a IATA card to everyone that joins the MLM, travel agents have to work hard to get that card, they have to sell $5,000 in vacations, trips etc plus a few other requirements to get their own bona fide IATAN number…. That’s one of the reasons I quit Traverus and YTB, they are an MLM and the cards are known as coming from a card mill. There are some vendors that will offer a courtesy discount with those cards just as they would a AAA card etc.

I am actully quite happy with YTB. I have gotten only good reception from vendors. No negative feedback at all. I find that YTB has alot of integrity.

We also have alot of training for new people. In fact a new training method was just unveiled on our websites today. I have learned so much. I’m in the process of planning a huge group trip right now. I will be earning my IATAN card soon enough.

Only you know if YTB is right for you. I am in YTB and love it. Anything worth while takes time. However, all companies need a business plan even your own whether it is YTB or not. Try not to spin your wheels to the point of burning out. Work smarter not harder. If you love what you do and you do it right. The business and sign ups will come.
Look at the resources we have available.

I would never try to discourage anyone, but let me tell you this. I am in a mlm. My husband went and took a look at YTB. He came home excited and wanted to do this as his own mlm. The more we thought about it and researched it, we were able to get better deals on Orbitz. Now, if it is something you really want to do and truly believe in it, then go for it. That was just our perspective of it.

I joined YTB in Novemeber and had pretty good success. I quickly built a downline of 6 people. However I found none of my downline able to duplicate my success and the reason why is because of the $499 up front fee to get started. A friend introduced mme to Traverus Travel in March (www.glorytravel.biz), everything works same as YTB but mmuch better compensation plan (YTB is not even close), and best of all no $499 up front fee (just $119). There are many other advantages as well. Feel free to email me for more details.

I am finding that the money, unfortunately, is made thru getting others to join. I’ve not had success in that area. I have booked travel, but to make real money in that, you will need to find people who want to book cruises, and bigger vacations. The commission on an airline is only $3 per person, so you have to book ALOT of travel to make any money. I do think that if you find others who travel, and they wantthe travel perks, it might work. But, beware, their are conditions to the travel perks too. I don’t think it’s for me, and will probably be dropping it. I would look for a company who will refund your money within a specific time frame if you find that it’s not for you, and personally help you find customers. I found one who does that, and have been very happy with that.

Editors Opinion: Wow YTB got off cheap…… although nothing was said about how much they paid the AG’s office for costs (was it seperate)? They have had an Illinois AG Investigator flying back and forth and you will see the results of that. Now the question is about other MLM Travel Companies.
My ‘Scammy’ sense buzzing like crazy.

Is YTB Travel a pyramid scheme? In strict terms, I think no, but they are real close to the line

I like the Facts Page on the website, like they are firing back at their critics

I’m interested to find out about YTB plans to offer franchises. They claim its never been done in the industry.

I’m wondering if this move to franchises is the 1st step in moving away from the network marketing business model.

There was alot of stuff that I could have include in this post about YTB (both negative and positive), but for the sake of time I had to limit what I put in.

How Does It Work

Heres a link to a video page on the TI site that gives a good overview of what’s included in each package and demonstrations on the equipment.

Business or Franchise?

Tat is an independent business opportunity. There are some recurring fees if you become part of their MVP program which allows you to purchase suppliers directly from Tat at discounted rates.

How Much Does It Cost

The Power Systems range in cost from $2497 to $4497. Kits costs $247-$897. Sunless tanning systems run $249.95- $649.95. The MVP Program Membership cost $297, but it is included with purchase of any of the Power Systems. The renewal cost is $147 per year, which is waived if you spend $100 or more in the TAT Store.

WHAT OTHERS SAY

This section is where I pull together a sample of opinions from people that have posted their experience and knowledge of the company. I try to be fair and balanced, but I give you what I find.

I checked all of my usual sources for independent information on a company and I couldn’t find anything on TAT International. Now that can be viewed in 2 ways, first if there was any scammy type behavior related to this company more than likely it would’ve shown up in my research. The other way to look at it is that the company might be small enough to escape any real criticism. Which way do I look at it? Check the ‘Random Observations’ section for a my personal thoughts.

In the absence of any independent critiques, we are left with what TAT can provide us with. Here is a link to their Press page which has links to articles written about the company. And here’s a link to an interview with CEO Kirk Knapp posted on Bizymoms.com.

I do have a couple of interview requests with tattoo artists that say they use TAT’s system. Hopefully, if any of those requests are granted they will be as informative as my interviews with Xocia distributors.

Better Business Bureau

TAT International LLC is an BBB accredited business with an A+ rating. Even with that there are complains, 5 in the last 36 months. The complains were regarding repair issues, customer service, and refund/exchange issues. You can read the full report here.

Random Observations

Up to this point I have kept my personal opinions and observations to myself. This section is where I give you some of my thoughts. They are random and might not be relevant to you, but they just might make you stop and go, Hmm?

The website is very informative with lots of videos that explain the services well.

I have mixed feelings about the MVP Master program. Is it coaching program or a network marketing pitch? If you watch the video it all sounds good, but $97 per person and a max. of 100 seems like a low price tag for what they’re offering.

I find it interesting that they are not just selling products, they are selling self improvement

My "Scammy" sense didn’t got off with this company. I believe that if the company were in engaged in any questionable practices that would be out there for people to find.

I was surprised by how much the packages cost. But you do get a lot of material in each package. I like that it’s easy to determine what the packages cost.
