Reasons to Start Your Home Business Now

I couldn’t think of a better way to re-launch this blog than with a list of the best reasons to have a home business.  Of course this list is in my humble opinion, but I suspect that many of you share most if not all of my reasoning.  However, the best reason for starting your business is what ever gets you motivated to start.  I know can be scary. I know it can difficult. But I also know it can be done.  Believe in yourself and just get going.  Here are some reasons to get you started:

Have Options

Happiness in life is about having options.  Running a successful business gives you more options. Where to spend your time, how to spent your money, and who you surround yourself with are all options that can come form a being a business owner.

Recession Proof Your Life

Economic tough times come and go.  If your dependent on one source of income then your life can change dramatically when economy tanks.  Wouldn’t be better to be able to ride out the downturns and upswings and still maintain the same quality of life?

Your Boss is an Idiot

Maybe not. Maybe he’s brilliant but a jerk. Or maybe she’s nice to you as long as you stay on the her good side. Or maybe you have a really nice boss, it doesn’t matter. Having a boss means that you’re at the whim and will of someone else and that means you have less control, less options, and less money than you should.

Daycare vs. Mom(or Dad)care

If you have small children like I do you know that one of the greatest joys is watching them grow.  Putting them in daycare for 10 hours a day prevents you experiencing their growth. And do I have to mention the cost of childcare these days.

Life is Short

Avoid all of the ”should’ve, could’ve, would’ve” regrets later in life. Do you want to look back on your life and say “I was a great mid level manager for XYZ Widget Company”? Start something that you can came as yours and you will happier about the life you lived

Inspire Others

Sometimes the best thing you can do for the people in your life is show them what is possible. Especially children.  Set the example that it possible to make their dreams a reality. That they don’t have to follow the masses.

Multiple Streams of Income

It’s the best way to build wealth.  Look at your favorite celebrity. If he or she is movie star you can bet that they probably have a production company, real estate, maybe a restaurant or a clothing line. Endorsements, appearances, and who knows what else.  All of these “ventures” represent a source of income. If one fails or is slow for some reason the others compensate and they continue to live well. Your home business can be another source of income to shore up your 9-5 job.

Get Paid for What You’re Worth (Finally)

You nearly kill yourself putting in extra hours to finish a project that will bring in more revenue to your company, and what do you get? A pat on the back and maybe a 3% raise next year (which works out to be $50 more on your paycheck–before taxes).  Isn’t better to get fully compensated for efforts? With your own business you keep what you make.

Give Back

With more money and more time you are in a better position to do more for whatever causes that you care about.

Do More for Your Family

Whether it’s a bigger home or a bigger vacation or being able to spend more time with them, your family can benefit in many ways from you owning your business.  The first few months of starting your business may eat up most of your free time, but in the long run your family will enjoy fruits of your labor.

Tomorrow I post ten more reasons to start your home business now.  I welcome any thoughts you may have on the list so far.
